I have long had trouble figuring out how to add a line break (SHIFT + ENTER)
within a paragraph on my Android phone 😥.
I have looked on the internet
and asked the generative AI but could not get any valid information....
This
time, I found that the Japanese keyboard of Gboard can be used to add line
breaks within paragraphs (SHIFT + ENTER)🤩!
|
I will show how to😋!
Note: This article contains a small portion of Japanese words.
If they
are not displayed correctly, please install Japanese fonts on your Windows
system.
How to add a line break (SHIFT + ENTER) within paragraph in Gboard on Android phone
1. [Settings] How to set up & add line breaks (SHIFT + ENTER) in paragraphs in Gboard
1-1. Adding valid Japanese keyboard "五十音" (Japanese syllabary)
- "Setting" > "System" > "Keyboard" > "On-screen keyboard" > "Gboard" > "Languages"
Then tap “+ Add keyboard”.
|
| Android "Setting" screen |
Select “日本語 (Japanese)” here.
|
| Android "Setting" screen |
Add “五十音 (Japanese syllabary)” keyboard.
|
| Android "Setting" screen |
Please be sure to select this “五十音 (Japanese syllabary)” keyboard. Other Japanese keyboards cannot be used to input line breaks(SHIFT + ENTER) within paragraphs.
|
| “五十音 (Japanese syllabary)” keyboard |
When you return to the "Languages" screen, you will see that “五十音 (Japanese syllabary)” has been added.
|
| Android "Setting" screen |
This completes the keyboard addition.
1-2. Switching keyboard
To add a line break within a paragraph, switch the keyboard to the English
(ABC-sequence) keyboard of the “日本語 (五十音) Gboard”.
Tap the
keyboard (⌨️) button in the lower right corner of the screen.
|
| Android screen |
Select “日本語 (五十音) Gboard” here.
|
| Android screen |
The Japanese keyboard (Japanese syllabary order) will then appear, and tap the “あa” (switch between Japanese and English) button in the lower left corner.
|
| Gboard Japanese (Japanese syllabary order) keyboard (Android screen) |
You will then see an English keyboard arranged in alphabetical order of English letters.
|
| Gboard English (ABC-order) keyboard (Android screen) |
This English (ABC-order) keyboard is the keyboard we will be using😋.
1-3. Adding line breaks (SHIFT + ENTER) within a paragraph on the Japanese keyboard “五十音” (Japanese syllabary)
On this English (ABC-order) keyboard, you can add a line break within a paragraph by (1) tapping ‘Shift(⇧)’ and (2) tapping ‘Enter(↵)’.
|
| Android screen |
1-4. How to switch back to the original keyboard
Just like in “1-2. Switching keyboards,” you can switch back to the original keyboard by tapping the keyboard button (⌨️) in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
2. [Operation Check] Actually using it on the blog's edit
I actually used it on my blog's (Blogger) edit screen.
With one
line typed in a paragraph, tap ‘Shift (⇧)’ and then ‘Enter (↵)’ on an English
(ABC-order) keyboard.
|
| Blogger Edit Screen |
Line break within paragraph have been created!
|
| Blogger Edit Screen |
When I check in the HTML view screen, I indeed see a line break (<br /> tag) within a paragraph (within a <p> tag).
|
| Blogger Edit Screen (HTML view) |
It is very comfortable because the operation is completed within the Gboard.
3. In closing
By using the English (ABC-order) keyboard on the “Japanese (Japanese syllabary
order) Gboard” keyboard, I can now do line breaks (SHIFT + Enter) within
paragraphs on the Gboard !
I am very happy to be able to comfortably edit
my blog from my phone 😁.
This time I experimented with Google's
blog service (Blogger) to confirm the operation, but I believe that this line
break within a paragraph is also valid for other services.
Hopefully
some of you will confirm (or follow up) this with other services....
[Appendix] How to change the keyboard (another method)
In addition to the above, I have found a new method to change the keyboard.
Here,
I introduces another way to change the Gboard keyboard (English QWERTY
<-> Japanese syllabary) than the method introduced in the text of this
article.
A-1. Switching keyboard
You can change the keyboard by pressing and holding the
space button (“␣”).
When you press and hold the space button (“␣”)
on the Gboard input screen.
|
| English(US) QWERTY keyboard (Gboard input screen) |
The “Change Keyboard” window will appear. Then if you select “日本語 五十音 (Japanese syllabary)” here,
|
| Gboard input screen “Change Keyboard” |
It becomes a Japanese syllabary keyboard.
|
| Japanese 50-key keyboard (Gboard input screen) |
A-2. How to switch back to the original keyboard
The procedure is the same when you want to change back to English(US) QWERTY keyboard. Press and hold the space button (“␣”).
|
| Japanese 50-note keyboard (Gboard input screen) |
If you select "English(US) QWERTY"
|
| Gboard input screen “キーボードの変更 (Change Keyboard )” |
It will return to English(US) QWERTY keyboard. It's that easy 😋.
|
| English(US) QWERTY keyboard (Gboard input screen) |
I think the hassle is about the same either way, so it may be up to your preference 😋.
